Wedding Day Timeline | How Many Hours Do You Need a Photographer For?

Wedding Day Timeline Organic Moments Photography

People often ask us as South Florida wedding and engagement photographers for all kinds of tips on their own photography. Plus, our clients often want to know what packages would suit them best when they choose us as their wedding photographers. So, we wanted to give our best advice on deciding how many hours you want your wedding coverage to be!

How Many Hours of Wedding Photography do you Need?

Every wedding is different, so you’ll want to choose your coverage based on your timeline. Weddings can run from a few hours to 12 hours to 3 days! Once you know your specific plans, that will determine your coverage choices.

So, make sure you pick your start and end time and then pick out the main events. How long do you want to spend getting ready? Do you want to do a first look with your future spouse or your parents? Make sure you put aside enough time before the ceremony to do everything you want!

Build a Wedding Photography Timeline

Make sure you know how long your ceremony is going to take and then plan time for family portraits and couple portraits afterward. You might want to add in a creative hour for some fun, freshly-married pictures, too!

You’ll also want to consider how much time you want to give your photographer to capture images of the décor of the reception. You work hard on those details, after all! We suggest working with a planner that can help make your day run more smooth.

Then, there’s the reception. Do you want to do a first dance? Parent dances? How many toasts will there be—and who will give them? Will you do blessings? What about the cake cutting and the garter toss and bouquet toss? And, of course, you’ll want to consider how you leave: do you want a special exit with sparklers or bubbles? And something to consider with South Florida weddings- especially with Miami weddings, will you have a late night stroll on the beach with the moon and stars overhead?

Once you have your timeline worked out, you should know roughly how many hours of coverage you need. We’d recommend doing a full day of coverage. Give yourself plenty of time, from the getting ready moments to the final goodbyes. After all, this is your once-in-a-lifetime moment—don’t cut corners!

And, of course, don’t be afraid to ask us for advice. We’re here to help!
